COALITIONS: Building and Maintenance
Gulf War, Kosovo, Afghanistan, War on Terrorism

In the aftermath of September 11th, and the need for a broad and multilayered international coalition to respond to the terrorist threat, the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, in collaboration with the American Academy of Diplomacy, initiated a major project on Coalition Building and Maintenance. A senior-level working group was established under the cochairmanship of Lee H. Hamilton, director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Hans Binnendijk of the National Defense University. Casimir A. Yost, director of the Institute, and Bruce Laingen, president of the Academy, are the project’s directors, and Andrew J. Pierre is its executive director.
