Washington, D.C. – The Academy expresses its condolences at the passing of former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. Dr. Kissinger was part of the inspiration for its creation and a founding member of the Academy over 40 years ago.


As Secretary of State, and for many years thereafter, Dr. Kissinger continued to affect the direction of United States foreign policy. He was repeatedly consulted by Presidents and his successors as Secretary of State. His influence on American foreign policy thinking and the practice of diplomacy will be long lasting. His thoughts and writings will continue to attract attention and debate for many years.


The Academy extends its respects and condolences to Dr. Kissinger’s family, his staff, and his associates.
